オーストラリアのスーパーマーケットWoolworthsは、新型コロナウイルスのリスクから高齢者や障害者を守るため、通常より1時間早くOPEN。この時間はこれらの人々のみが買い物できる取り組みを行っている。オーストラリアでは、高齢者や障害者のことを考えず、彼らが必要としているいくつかの必須アイテム・食料品・トイレットペーパーまでも、人々が購入争いをするといったパニックが起きた。
Woolworthsのスポークスマンは「先週のスーパーマーケットでのパニックにより、多くの高齢者や障害者の人々のコミュニティで必要とされている重要なアイテムを我々は見逃していたことに気付いた。前例のない需要が、早朝OPENを促した」と述べた。現在、国内のほとんどのスーパーマーケットにおいて、午前7時から午前8時の1時間、通常OPENより早く営業することが認められている。
専務取締役のClaire Peters氏は「営業前の時間に買い物できる機会を提供することで、高齢のお客様や障害のあるお客様は、混雑の少ない環境で最も必要なアイテムの入手が可能となる。今私たちはお互いに親切にする必要がある」と述べた。
The Australian supermarket brand Woolworths is now opening its supermarkets one hour earlier to allow elderly people and persons with disabilities to do shopping with limited risks.The recent buying panic that occurred in Australia, resulting in people fighting over the last pack of toilet paper, left some elderly people and persons with disabilities without some essential items or food supplies.
“The move has been prompted by the unprecedented demand in supermarkets over the past week, which has seen many elderly and vulnerable people in the community missing out on vital items they may need when they shop,” said Woolworths spokesperson.The early access has been granted between 7am and 8 am to most of the supermarkets in the country.
“This temporary measure will give elderly customers, and those with a disability, the opportunity to shop before our stores officially open – helping them obtain the essential items they need most in a less crowded environment. Now more than ever we need to be kind to each other,” said managing director Claire Peters.
