新型コロナウイルスの大流行により、世界中で多くの企業がリモートワークシステムを導入。従業員らは自宅で仕事をすることが可能になっている。しかし、障害者らは随分前からそのような対応を求めてきたにもかかわらず、多くの雇用主たちは便宜を図ることは難しいなど、何かしら理由を挙げては拒否し続けてきた。#AccessiblilityForAbledsまたは#DisabledAndSaltyAFを通じて障害者らはソーシャルメディア上でこの差別に抗議し、状況についての認識を高めている。
「新型コロナウイルスの影響で障害者たちがずっと求めては拒否されてきたことが、突然利用できるようになったときの驚きを想像してください」と、あるTwitterユーザーはコメント。
「車椅子が書棚の列に入らないことを指摘したとき、教授からデジタルブックは真面目な学者が使用するものではなく、図書館にいることが最重要であり、君は怠け者だと言われた。今では誰もがデジタルで大学の資料を使用している」 と別のユーザーは述べる。
障害者らは、少なくとも現在の状況が作業システムの変化につながり、より多くの障害者が将来リモートで作業できるようになることを望んでいる。
Many companies around the world are implementing remote work systems due to the Covid-19 pandemic, allowing their employees to work from home.However, the disabled community has been asking for such accommodations a long time ago but many employers denied it due to the difficulties to set it up and other excuses.Through #AccessiblilityForAbleds or #DisabledAndSaltyAF the disabled community is protesting against this discrimination on social media and raise awareness about it.
“So, imagine my surprise (all disabled people’s surprise) when because of the #coronavirus all of the accommodations we have been denied because we’re disabled have suddenly become available,” commented a Twitter user.
“When I pointed out that my wheelchair didn’t fit in the stacks, I was told by a professor that digital books weren’t used by serious scholars, being in the library was paramount, and I was lazy. Now everyone is using digital campus resources. #DisabledAndSaltyAF,” commented another user.
The disabled community is at least hoping the current situation will lead to a change in the working system and allow more persons with disabilities to work remotely in the future.
