2020年までに、カリフォルニアに本社をすべての公営企業は少なくとも1名の女性を取締役に起用する必要がある。そして2022年までに、取締役5名以下の企業では少なくとも2名、取締役6名以上の企業では少なくとも3名の女性役員を起用する。現在、企業の25％には女性役員がゼロ。
商工会議所は、この新しい法律は性別の多様性のみに偏り、他のダイバーシティを蔑ろにしていると反発。企業の取締役会の構成は政府によって義務付けられているのではなく、内部的に決定されるべきだと主張している。
By 2020 all publicly companies with headquarters in California will be required to have at least 1 female on board. And by 2022 at least two women (for boards with five or fewer directors) and three women (for boards with six or more directors). Currently a fourth of the companies don’t have any women on their board.
However the Chamber of Commerce says the new law will prioritize gender over other aspects of diversity.
The Chamber of Commerce has argued that the composition of corporate boards should be determined internally, not mandated by government.
