ロサンゼルスの書店「The Ripped Bodice」は、恋愛小説の作家たちの間で、人種のダイバーシティに小さな改善が見られたという新しいレポートを発表した。
2019年に発表された2,400冊の恋愛小説に基づくレポートによると、著者の8.3％がネイティブアメリカンを含む人種のマイノリティであることが明らかとなった。これは、著者の7.8％がエスニックマイノリティの出身であった2016年の最初のレポートと比較して、僅かではあるが、改善見られた。
The Ripped Bodiceの共同創設者であるLeah Koch氏は「作家にとって公平とは誰もが感じられない現状に本当に私は悲痛な気持ちになる。恋愛小説を書かないと決心するほど落胆していると若い作家もいる」と述べた。
A new report by a Los Angeles bookstore “The Ripped Bodice” revealed a small improvement in racial diversity among the Romance authors.
A Romance is a literary genre implementing a narrative story that involves a mysterious or spiritual adventure or that focus on a quest involving bravery and strong values, without necessarily having a romantic interest.According to the report based on 2,400 romance published in 2019, 8.3% of the authors were from racial minorities including Native Americans. A small improvement compared to the first report published in 2016 where 7.8% of the authors were from ethnic minorities.
“It truly makes me feel heartbroken for these authors who clearly aren’t getting a fair shake. There are young authors out there who might feel so discouraged that they would decide not to write a romance,” said Leah Koch, co-founder of The Ripped Bodice.
