ニュージーランド海軍は、より性別にこだわらない立場を反映させるため、軍の方針を更新すると発表した。男性隊員も化粧やマニキュアが可能になる。
「ニュージーランド国防軍は2019年11月1日に海軍兵の身だしなみと外見に関するガイドラインを更新すると正式に発表した。この更新は海軍が個人のそれに関して区別をつけないことを反映するためのものだ。こういった変化はダイバーシティとインクルージョンを織り込んだもので、我々組織にとって、また海軍独自の伝統と特徴からしても重要なことだ」と、海軍少将であるデービッド・プロトコル(David Proctor)は述べる。
海軍兵は自分の好きなように化粧もでき、透明または薄い色のマニキュアをすることも可能だ。自然な見た目のヘアカラーや、整っていて自然な雰囲気のつけまつげも可。一対の自然な色のスタッドやイヤリング、指輪は二つまで、香水もきつくなければ許可されている。しかし、ボディピアスや誇張がひどいヘアスタイル、たとえばモヒカンや模様のあるような髪型、ヘアアクセサリーは禁止されている。
「ニュージーランド海軍は個人を大事にする現代的でプロフェッショナルな組織である。しかし、そうはいっても我々は軍隊であり、身なりや外見に関して兵たちはある程度期待されるものがある。我々としては清潔感や安全な軍隊イメージをもとに方針を打ち出している」とプロトコルは述べる。
The Royal New-Zealand Navy (RNZN) announced it would update its policy in order to reflect a more gender-neutral position. The male personnel will now be allowed to wear makeup or nail polish if they want to.
“The NZDF can confirm that as of November 1, 2019, guidelines around grooming and appearance for Royal New Zealand Navy personnel will be updated. These updates are to reflect that the RNZN make no distinction between male and female members in terms of their personal grooming and appearance. These changes reflect that diversity and inclusion are critical to our success as an organization, as are the unique traditions and characteristics of the RNZN,” said David Proctor, Chief of Navy Rear Admiral.
Navy personnel will be able to wear discreet makeup, clear or pale nail varnish, natural looking hair colors, “trimmed, neat and natural” false eyelashes, one pair of “natural colored” stud or sleeper earrings, rings on a maximum of 2 fingers as well as a moderate perfume.
However, body piercings, “exaggerated hairstyles” such as Mohawks or patterned hair as well as hair accessories are still prohibited.
“The RNZN is a modern and professional organization that embraces individuality and personality. However, we are a military organization and with that comes certain expectations on our personnel in terms of dress and appearance. The RNZN’s grooming standards are based on neatness, cleanliness, safety and military image,” said Proctor.
