ベルリン動物園にいる2羽のペンギン、スキッパーとピングーは親になりたいという意思表示をした。
この2羽は石を卵に見立てて孵化させる試みを始め、交互に石を温めている。
この状況を受けて、動物園の飼育係は彼らに卵を与えることにした。卵は、つがいだが仲が悪く卵を育てる気もないペンギンたちから拝借したものだ。卵が与えられると、2羽はまるで本物の親のようにすぐに世話を始めた。
もし孵化が成功すれば、ベルリン動物園は20年ぶりにペンギンの赤ちゃんが誕生する。
ペンギンの同性愛は、野生と飼育のいずれにおいても珍しいものではない。シドニー水族館では2羽の雄ペンギンから2018年10月に赤ちゃんが誕生している。また、2005年にはニューヨークの動物園での実話をもとにした「タンタンタンゴはパパふたり」という絵本が出版されている。

The two penguins started to try to hatch a stone. Taking turns one after another to keep it warm.
Faced with this situation, the guardians of the zoo decided to give them an egg from a heterosexual couple who do not get along very well and often have a lack of attention to their eggs.
They immediately began to take care of the egg, as real parents would do.
If the hatching is successful, it would be the first birth of a penguin at the Berlin Zoo in 20 years.
Homosexual relations between penguins aren’t uncommon in the wild or in captivity and the Sydney Aquarium saw a successful birth by two penguin dads in October 2018.
