2013年にLGBT同士の婚姻は法的に認められたものの、フランスの新聞リベレーション（Liberation）によるとブラジルは世界で一番LGBTの人々が殺害されている国だ。
この法律の制定は、現職大統領で同性愛嫌悪を公言しているボルソナロ（Bolsonaro）大統領に真っ向から対立する決定だ。
