世界最大のPCメーカーであるLenovoは、外部D＆Iコンサルタントに、ハーバード大学卒業生として初めての盲ろう者（視覚と聴覚の両方に障害がある方）である、ハーベン・ギルマ氏を雇用した。
彼女の起用は、Lenovoの職場だけでなく、Lenovoの製品を利用する障害のあるコミュニティに対する意識を高め、より包摂的な社会の促進を支援することが期待されている。
ギルマ氏が障害者へのテクノロジーを推奨していくことは、今回が初めてではない。2015年には、彼女は前米国大統領バラク・オバマに会い、障害者にとってよりアクセスしやすく、よりスマートな技術製品開発の重要性を強調した。
この新しい任命により、LenovoはD＆Iへのコミットメントを実現していくこととなる。
「私たちは、ダイバーシティの進歩と多国籍企業向けの、一部モデルの作り直しができることに誇りを持っている。従業員全体で、あらゆる形態のダイバーシティを促進する取り組みを継続するというコミットを実現していく。」とLenovo財団社長兼chief diversity officer であるYolanda Lee Conyers氏は述べる。
年次報告書によると、Lenovoでは、100言語66もの国籍の従業員を採用していることを明らかにしている。また同じレポートによると、Lenovoは、世界中の慈善活動とボランティア活動の恩恵により、100万人に影響を与えるという目標を達成することに成功。
ついには、多様な人々へのアクセスを増やし、従業員を支援するSTEM教育プログラムをサポートするLenovo 財団を通して、世界中の組織に16のミニグラントを授与した。

Lenovo, the world largest PC vendor, just hired Haben Girma, the first deaf-blind Havard graduate, as an external diversity and inclusion consultant.
Her role is to help the company to increase disability’s inclusion in Lenovo’s products as well as Lenovo’s workplace.
This is not the first time Girma advocates for disability inclusion in technology, in 2015 she meet the former US President Barack Obama to highlights the importance of accessible technology.
With this new appointment, Lenovo continue to demonstrate its commitment for D&I.

We are committed to continuing our work of advancing greater diversity in all its forms across our workforce and to foster a sense of belonging with inclusive practices,” said Yolanda Lee Conyers, chief diversity officer and president of Lenovo Foundation.
In their annual report, the company reveals employing 66 unique nationalities speaking 100 different languages. Among the top 14 executives, 5 different nationalities are represented and 97% of their local managers are natives from the country they are working in.
The report also reveals Lenovo’s commitment to impact one million people through their philanthropy and volunteerism actions have been reached.
Finally, 16 mini-grants have been awarded around the world through the Lenovo Foundation to support STEM education programs, increase impacted populations and empower employees.
“We have many achievements and milestones to celebrate, and meeting our goals requires constant focus and is a continual journey. We are taking steps to make sure our workforce reflects the best insights, creativity and experiences reflective of our customers and society,” said Conyers.
