梨花女子大学が発表した、韓国人権委員会の要請に関する新しい報告書は、北朝鮮の女性脱出者がしばしば韓国の職場で、差別に直面していることを明らかにした。
現在、韓国には32,000人の脱北者が住んでおり、そのうち72％が女性である。
この調査によると、女性の脱北者は、高い賃金格差やセクハラ等により、仕事を見つけることが難しい状況である。主な差別の理由は、脱北者の地位または強い北のアクセントによるものである。
脱北者を雇ったことがあるレストランのオーナーは、「顧客から、脱北者の強いアクセントが気になるという声が上がったり、また脱北者自身が他の同僚と仲良くしなかった。嘘をついて、私は韓国系中国人ですと言ったら、就職するのは簡単だろう。」と話す。
ハナ財団によると、北朝鮮からの女性脱北者の月給は、全国平均よりも26％低い。ただし、前年に比べてわずかな改善が見られた。
「他の同僚は年2,400万ウォンを受け取ったが、私は2,200万ウォンで働くように頼まれた。翻訳作業も頼まれたが、給与は上がらなかった。」と話す脱北者もいる。
女性の脱出者は、性別と亡命の二重差別の対象となっている。「韓国の亡命法は、女性の亡命者の保護を強化し、女性の人権の保護を強化すべきである。」と研究を担当したKim Suk-hyang教授は語る。
A new report by Ewha University on the request of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea reveals North Korean female defectors often face workplace discrimination in South Korea.
Currently, 32 thousands defectors live in South Korea, among them 72% are female.
According to the study, female defectors face workplace discrimination ranging from difficulties to find a job to high pay gap or sexual harassment.
Main discrimination reasons are due to their defector status or their strong North accent.
“The restaurant owner said they had hired defectors before, but the customers did not like the strong accent and the defectors did not get along well with other co-workers. It would have been easier to land a job if I had lied and said I was Korean-Chinese, “reported a defector whiling to stay anonymous.
North Korean female defectors monthly salary is in average 26% lower than the national average salary according to the Hana Foundation. However, slight improvements have been observed compared to the previous year.
“Other co-workers received a 24 million won yearly salary, but I was asked to work for 22 million won. I was also asked to do translation tasks but my salary did not rise, which I believe is because I am a defector.”
“Female defectors are subject to double discrimination due to their gender and defection. The country’s defection law should include better protection for female defectors and offer stronger protection of their human rights,” said Kim Suk-hyang professor in charge of the study.
