ドイツ連邦保健省のイェンス・シュパーン(Jens Spahn)大臣は、転換療法を禁止する新たな法律を求めている。
転換療法は物議を醸す技術で、被験者が同性愛的な行動を取ろうとした場合に電気ショックを与えたり、また男性ホルモンであるテストステロンを注射して被験者を異性愛者に変えようとする療法だ。
ゲイであり男性と結婚したシュパーン大臣は「私の立場ははっきりしている。同性愛は病気ではないのだから、治療の必要はない」と述べた。
毎年、1,000例ほどの転換療法がドイツで行われている。
2018年初め、欧州議会は拘束力のない法律を採択した。この法律はEU加盟国に対して転換療法の禁止を要求するものであるが、今のところ、マルタとスペインの一部地域だけしか応じていない。

Conversion therapy is a controversial technique involving administering electric shocks to subjects as they view images of homosexual acts or administering injections of the male hormone testosterone in order to make the subjects heterosexuals.
Spahn who’s gay and married to a man said “My position is clear: homosexuality is not an illness, which is why it does not need to be treated”.
Every year about 1000 conversion therapies are “performed” in Germany.
In early 2018, the European Parliament adopted a non-binding law that called on EU members to ban the practice, but so far, only Malta and some Spanish regions have complied.
