数々の賞を受賞したハリウッドの俳優、プロデューサー、監督などは、映画業界に公開レターを通じて障害者の映画撮影へ包括的であるよう求めた。
米国での障害者の包含を増やすことを目的とした財団である、Ruderman Family Foundationによって作成された手紙は、ハリウッドのスタジオ、プロデューサー、TVチャンネルに障害者を増やすよう求めている。
この手紙は、エドワード・ノートン、グレン・クローズ、ファレリー兄弟、さらには1987年にオスカーを受賞した最初の聴覚障害者女優のマーリー・マトリンなど、多くの有名なハリウッドスターによって支持されている。
現在、障害のある役の95％が障害のない役者によって演じられている。
アカデミー賞の歴史において、オスカーにノミネートされた61の障害を持つ役のうち、27役が受賞し、その中でも実際に障害のある俳優によって演じられたのは、2人だけであった。
Many awards winning Hollywood actors, producers, directors etc. are asking the cinema industry through an open letter, to increase disability inclusion in cinematography.
The letter, created by the Ruderman Family Foundation, a foundation aimed to increase disability inclusion in the US, is asking the Hollywood’s studio, producers and TV channels for more disability inclusion. The letter has now been supported by many famous Hollywood representatives such as Edward Norton, Glenn Close, the Farrely brothers or even Marlee Matlin the first deaf actress to receive an Oscar in 1987.
Currently 95% of the roles representing a disabled character are played by valid actors, despite disability been the most represented minority with 21% of the population reporting have a disability.
Out of the 61 disabled roles nominated for an Oscar, including 27 winning, only 2 roles were played by a person with disability.
