世界中で10億人以上が利用している人気ビデオアプリケーションであるTikTokは、障害のある人、LGBTQコミュニティのメンバーや、太り気味の人の投稿が拡散されないよう制限した。
TikTokによると、これは彼らをいじめから保護する為とのこと。TikTokによって「脆弱である」と定義されたアカウントは、再生回数が6,000〜10,000回に達すると、TikTokニュースフィードから消え、動画の拡散が抑制される。モデレーションチームは、「脆弱である」可能性のあるユーザーのアカウントをリストして、それぞれの国でのみ動画が表示されるよう指示した。
しかしこれに対し、障害を持つ人々の権利を専門とする組織「AbilityWatch」のコンスタンタングロッシュ氏は、「この検閲は何にも基づいていない。ネットを荒らしている人を罰するのではなく、被害者を罰するのは馬鹿げている。」と述べる。
TikTokの代表によると、長期的な解決策の為にはこのポリシーはもう使用していない。意図は良かったが、アプローチは間違っていた。以前のポリシーを変更し、いじめ対策とアプリ内保護を採用することにした。
TikTok, a popular video application counting over a billion users worldwide was intentionally restricting the publications of people with disabilities, LGBTQ community members, and over-sized people to reach a broad audience.
According to TikTk this was to protect them from bullying.
Account holders defined as “Vulnerable” by TikTok had their video stats capped after reaching 6000 to 10.000 views, disappearing from the TikTok newsfeed, preventing any chance for videos to become viral.
According to an internal source of TikTok, moderation team were also instructed to list people with “vulnerable” potential so that their videos can only be visible in their respective country.
“This censorship is not based on anything. It’s absurd not to punish trolls, but victims of cyberbullying,” said Constantin Grosch, from the organization dedicated to the rights of people with disabilities AbilityWatch.
“This approach was never intended to be a long-term solution” and said the policies were no longer in use. While the intention was good, the approach was wrong and we have long since changed the earlier policy in favor of more nuanced anti-bullying policies and in-app protections,” reacted a TikTok representative.
