合わせて1,200万人の定期購読者がいる5つのLGBT動画メーカーが、LGBTに対する差別を理由にYouTubeとGoogleを訴えることになった。
この動画メーカーらはYouTubeが「ゲイ」「トランスジェンダー」「バイセクシャル」などのコンテンツを視聴できなくしたり、また、定期購読者の排除や広告を非表示(そしてそれはつまり収入減につながる)にするなどして検閲を行ったと主張している。
原告らは、彼らの動画がセクシャルなものを含んでいないときもターゲットにされていると述べる。
YouTubeはLGBTコミュニティーに対するいかなる差別も否定している。

ブリア・カム(Bria Kam)とクリッシー・チャンバーズ(Chrissy Chambers)はLGBTカップルで彼らのYouTubeチャンネルには850,000人のフォロワーがついている。彼らによれば、YouTubeからの収入が月3,500ドルから500ドルまで下がったそうだ。毎月数百万のビューがあり、それが続いているというのに、プラットフォーム制限とマネタイズが無効になったことが原因だとしている。
「彼らは私たちのサムネイルを削除し、定期購読者に動画を送らず、また購読者の排除も行っている。年齢制限が設けられている」とカムは述べる。
原告によると、YouTubeはソーシャルメディアで騒がれるようになった時だけ気にするのだそう。そして、アルゴリズムエラーだったと主張するとのこと。
A group of five LGBT video makers cumulating more than 1.2 million subscribers decided to sue YouTube and Google for discrimination toward LGBT.
The group claim YouTube censor video related to “gay” “transgender” or “bisexual” contents by hiding the videos, removing subscribers or by deactivating advertisements and therefore the means of income.
The plaintiffs claim their videos are being targeted even when there is no sexual nor mature contents in it.
YouTube is denying any form of discrimination concerning the LGBT community.
“We’re proud that so many LGBTQ creators have chosen YouTube as a place to share their stories and build community. All content on our site is subject to the same policies.” “Our policies have no notion of sexual orientation or gender identity and our systems do not restrict or demonetize videos based on these factors or the inclusion of terms like ‘gay’ or ‘transgender.’ In addition, we have strong policies prohibiting hate speech, and we quickly remove content that violates our policies and terminate accounts that do so repeatedly,” said Alex Joseph, a YouTube representative.
Bria Kam and Chrissy Chambers, a LGBT couple followed by over 850 000 people on their channel said their YouTube incomes have dropped from $3,500 a month to $500 due to the platform restrictions and demonetization , despite continuing to have millions of views every month.
“They are removing our thumbnails, they are not sending our videos out to our subscribers, they are removing subscribers. We are age-gated. We are age-restricted.” said Kam.
It also seems, according to the complainants, that YouTube only cares about their cases when social networks speak enough about them. Then, they state it was just an error from the YouTube algorithm.
