Equality Groupが行ったリサーチによると、Brexitがイギリス国内に住むマイノリティーグループに対して影響を与える可能性があると推測している。
Brexitは国内状況に悪影響を及ぼすと考えている白人が16%しかいないのに対し、マイノリティーグループに所属する少数派民族の人たちは52%が悪影響を及ぼすと答えている。
あるインタビュー回答者は、「極右の人気がどんどん高まっていることから、Brexit後はいろいろな問題や複雑で厄介な状況が生まれるだろう。そして、そういった一連の流れから少数派民族は差別されるのではないか」と答えている。
Equality Groupの創設者であるHephzi Pembertonは次のように述べている。
「広い意味での多様性に焦点を当てている我が社としては、イギリス経済にとって最重要な二つのセクター、それはすなわち金融とテクノロジー業界のことだが、これらの業界における人種的な面での多様性の欠如を危惧している。これらの業界の経営陣や管理職レベルにおいて、より人種的にバランスの取れた顔ぶれになるよう取り組んでいきたい。そのためには、変化に向けて実際に措置を講じる前に、まずはデータを見て事実と状況を理解するべきだと考えている」
「人種について話すのは、性別について話すよりもさらに難しい。人種に対する偏見や無理解はジェンダーよりひどいことが多いからだ。少なくとも性別に関して言うなら、企業の上層部の人間には妻や娘がいたりする。それゆえ、自分の身近な女性である彼女たちが直面するかもしれない困難に対して共感したり、時には手助けすることもあるだろう。ところが、人種の違いはそうはいかない。必ずしも身近にいるとは言えない。それゆえに状況が想像しづらい。しかし、性別と同じように人種に対しても同様の行動と理解の深まりが見られなければいけない」
According to a study conducted by the Equality Group states Brexit could negatively affect ethnic minorities in the UK.
While 16% of the white community think Brexit will have a negative impact, 52% of ethnic minorities think it will affect them.
An anonymous interviewee said, “With the ever-increasing popularity of the far right, it is arguable that Brexit can open all cans of worms and potential discrimination against minority groups.”
Equality group founder, Hephzi Pemberton said:
“As a firm that focuses on diversity in its broadest sense, we wanted to shine a light on the lack of racial diversity in two of the most important sectors to the UK economy: Finance and Technology. We are committed to seeing more balanced representation at senior leadership levels in these industries, and we understand that people need to see the data and understand the facts before taking practical steps towards change.”
“Talking about race is almost harder than talking about gender. The level of prejudice and lack of understanding around the issues is often greater. At least with gender, senior decision makers often have wives and daughters, which helps them to empathize with the challenges they might face and do something about it. However, it doesn’t always apply to the race. Some people might have a chance to stay with minority people, but some people simply don’t. Therefore, it’s very hard to imagine what kind of situation the minority group go through. We need to see a similar level of action and better understanding on race, as we have on gender.”
