このランキングの特殊性としては、ランキングは雑誌の読者によって作成されているため、関係する人口に応じて最高の雇用主を直接表しているということだ。
ランキングを作るために、読者は自分が働きたい、または障害者にやさしい環境を提供しているベスト雇用主の名前を尋ねられた。
2020年版では、読者はロッキード・マーティン、JPモルガン・チェース・アンド・デロイト、デロイトを3人のベスト民間雇用主として選んだ。
政府系雇用主に関しては、中央情報局（CIA）、国家安全保障局（NSA）、およびアメリカ国務省（DOS）をベスト３に選んだ。

Careers & the disABLED is the only magazine providing assistance with vocational guidance and recruitment for people with disabilities in the US.
Additionally, each publication includes a special Braille section.
Every year, the magazine publishes the top 50 private employers and the top 50 government employers in the US for people with disabilities.
The characteristics of this ranking is the fact it is made by the magazine’s readers themselves and therefore directly represents the best employers according to the concerned population.
To establish the ranking, readers were asked to name the best employers they would like to work for or provide a disability friendly environment for its employees.
For the 2020 edition, the readers selected Lockheed Martin, JPMorgan Chase & Co and Deloitte as the best three private employers.
Regarding the best three government employers, readers selected the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the National Security Agency (NSA) and the U.S. Department of State (DOS).
